By January 27, 2020DFP

The numbers are staggering- over 3 billion people using social media daily.

Putting a focus on your business social media in 2020? Good idea.

Top 5 Social Media Trends 2020

Then you need to know what trends are most important right now:

  1. We’ll start with our reigning social media platform king– Instagram.
    • The death of likes- the like button will be slowly disappearing this year. You eventually won’t be able to see likes on other people’s posts but will be able to see the number of likes on your own posts.
    • DFP Tip: Comments and true engagement will be key. Focus on driving the conversation with engagement-inducing content!
  2. Speaking of engagement, communities will continue to matter more and more this year. Truly connecting with likeminded people, whether it be Facebook groups, or a Whatsapp group chat- will be more important than ever.
    • DFP Tip: Don’t just create a company page to garner likes and followers. Create your own groups on LinkedIn (and FB) and foster engaging conversation.
  3. Influencer marketing is only going to get bigger and bigger. Full-time influencers are becoming the norm, hawking every product and service under the sun.
    • DFP Tip: Look for authentic influencers in your niche. Kim Kardashian isn’t the best influencer for your pet store. Engage with influencers who are authentic and truly passionate in your space- it’ll build more trust with your audience!
  4. Video-video-video! Some studies are estimating that over 80% of all web traffic in 2020 will be video.
    • DFP Tip: Be creative- make inspiring videos that your audience hasn’t seen before.
    • DFP Tip: Keep it short and sweet! Capture the user’s attention within the first 3 seconds.
    • DFP Tip: Expand past YouTube- TikTok, Lasso, and Byte are the big risers in the video space. TikTok especially has a huge reach with Millennials and Gen Z’ers.
  5. Focus on your Analytics.
    • Social ads. Influencer campaigns. Organic social programs. The amount of social data at your fingertips is multiplying. Treat your analytics the same way you would an SEO or PPC program, with a heavy emphasis on KPI’s and measurement.
    • DFP Tip: In addition to your in-platform (FB, IG, Twitter, etc.) analytics, track and measure your social traffic within Google Analytics. Identify what’s working and what’s not, track historical trends, optimize towards best performers, and monitor user site behavior and path to conversion.
