2019- The Year of Instagram

DFP - Instagram King of 2019

Sorry, Twitter.

Move over, Facebook.

Google+ – we hardly knew ye.

2019 will forever be known as the year of Instagram, as it passed the magic 1 BILLION user mark. Our year-end review breaks down some of the year’s biggest highlights on the king of social media platforms.

Hiding Likes

Influencers beware- IG started testing hiding like counters in a few different countries (Canada, Brazil, Japan) this year, and now its coming to the U.S.

Turning this to this:

IG no more likes

Are you an influencer worried about this change? Or just a regular chap or lady that likes the likes? No worries- comments aren’t going anywhere, and that’s the real currency of engagement.

IGTV

You wanted to post longer videos- you got it. IGTV was born and allows users to upload videos up to 10 minutes in length.

Verified and popular users- 60 minutes! Yep, that blue checkmark lets you upload an hour of content.

This year, IGTV began allowing users to upload and view videos both vertically and horizontally.

Reels

First copying Snapchat, not Tiktok. Reels is a new mode within Instagram stories meant to replicate the video-sharing social network TikTok.

What does Reels do? You can create short videos, upload them, remix them, add a music library and more. Right now, it’s only available in Brazil- but as with every other test, prepare for it to hit the U.S. soon!
